I am writing this review not just as a Google Guide, but more importantly, having just married the woman of my dreams at Jedidiah Hawkins Inn.
And, lastly, I would say thanks to everybody there for all that you did.
Everyone at the Inn - from Lia to every worker that was there that evening - made obvious and sincere efforts to accommodate us for our special event. We even left the following day with a special surprise from the Inn - I won't ruin it but suffice it to say that it was eminently in keeping with the generosity of spirit that this location embodies.
The food was amazing along with the service. We ate inside the dining room. I had a rib-eye steak and it was cooked to my liking perfectly . The property is beautiful. Will definitely be back.
If you haven't been here, a brief description: the grounds contain a historic building which is the Inn, and a modern barn. The Inn has six bedrooms that it rents, one of which is a breathtakingly beautiful bridal suite. The bridal sweet is essentially 3 floors, comprised of a sitting room, the bedroom (and adjoining bathroom), and the observatory. The room is nicely kept; it is stocked with a Nespresso coffee maker and luxury amenities. The photo opportunities in the suite alone are tremendous.
Don't bother. The hostess was as warm as a popsicle and then took us to our table scattered with crumbs. She proceeded to wipe off the table with her hands. We offered to sit at the bar while they prepared our table which was the highlight of the night. When we returned to our table we waited another 15 minutes for menus. The appetizer I received was not what I ordered and the main course of short ribs was mediocre. The staff never introduced themselves and infrequently checked on us. Staff seem to have no professional training. For the amount of money we spent, I expected more. Do yourself a favor and just hang out at the bar. So disappointing...we will not return.
First, Lia is a pleasure to work with. She was always available by phone, and worked hard to accommodate our needs. We were not a couple of great means, but Lia was able to work within the confines of our budget. We made three or four trips out to the Inn, and each time Lia was able to meet with us and assist in our planning. Lia put the entire grounds at our disposal and gave us a wide degree of flexibility in planning our wedding.
Now, you might accuse me of being sentimental, but if so I would simply encourage you to visit this Inn yourself. Not as a review, but as a simple truth, I do not believe that you will be let down. I hope your experience at the Inn are as wonderful as ours was.
Our wedding was on November 9, 2017. We managed all affairs with the help of Lia, the kindly owner of the premises.
Beautiful house, loved the feel of it. Perfect for a date. Great service and amazing food! Absolutely recommend and go back.
Now, the barn - similarly charming as was the rest of the grounds. You will not have free reign with this barn: no exposed flames please, and some limits to what you can hang. But the limitations are minor and the barn needs very little improvement as is. There is a delightful wooden-trellis-enclosed walkway leading to the barn that, again, provides excellent photo opportunities. We used a very small amount of uplighting for mood. The barn will not fit a huge gathering, but will not require a powerful sound system either. There is plenty of room for dancing. The bar is, again, well stocked with competent bartenders.
The Inn has two adjoining/connected dining rooms, a solarium, a bar area, and a seating room. Each of these rooms are charming. The bar is well stocked. When used as part of an event, the dining rooms provide a moody atmosphere that is perfectly suited for occasions such as ours. The solarium was used primarily for breakfast services. It is a bright and sunny place and, too, is well suited for its purposes.
A word about the Inn's food: it is phenomenal. We reserved the grounds for our event having never sampled the food and having never really heard about it. The week before our wedding, we decided to come try the food - which Lia provided gratis as an unexpected tasting. I would say that this was five-star fine dining, like nothing I have ever had. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that the "mashed potatoes" that we thought we had been eating was, in fact, mashed parsnip - something we realized as we said to each other how we had never tasted such sweet and delicious potatoes (which started us thinking). Every dish thereafter, we tried to figure out the hidden flavors or ingredients, and each dish provided some exquisite flavor combinations. If you don't come here to reserve the grounds, come here to eat the food - you won't be disappointed.
Amazing food well worth the price tag. Great hospitality. Need reservation during busy time of the weekend
